If you’re here because I met you on Halloween, thanks for coming by. You looked great!
How did my suggestion work out for you — thumbs up or thumbs down? Do you have a recommendation for me? Please post a comment!
Here’s the whole list of suggestion cards I had to hand out tonight.
- Stores: Caramel Fashion and Lou Lou
- Music: DJ Will Eastman, Last Train Home, Rod Picott
- Activity: Renwick Gallery
- Kid-Friendly: My favorite monster book
- Comic strip: Bassist Wanted, which sparked this whole idea!
(Update from Nov. 1…so far, there have been a total of 27 clicks trackable to the suggestion cards! Given that I handed out maybe 50 cards, I’m pretty thrilled with the conversion rate. Thanks for clicking!)

Wait, HOW did the suggestion cards work?
I printed 8 different cards, each with a suggestion type, e.g., “You might like this DC BAND” with a little picture and URL to click on to see the band info.
As I was chatting with people, I tried to figure out which of my suggestions a person would like best, and gave them that card. It was fun! if one person in a group got a suggestion, they ALL wanted one.
And the best was when I gave someone the exhibit card, which featured a craft exhibit where there was knitting involved. She was like, “Oh, I knit!” and so I gave her the card for a site where she could design and print her own fabric. Turned out, she and a friend had been talking about whether you could do that…they were very happy!
OK, that’s what I thought, but I wanted to make sure I had the sequence right. What a great idea! I am so glad it paid off.
